Chunxia Wu, etc.,al. Epidemiological investigation and analysis of the first human infection with H5N6 avian influenza in Chengdu. Strait J Prev Med, Dec. 2024, Vol.30, No.6
Objective to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of the first case of human infection with H5N6 avian influenza in Chengdu, and provide references for its epidemic prevention and control.
Methods the field epidemiological investigation method was used to obtain the information of the onset of the case, the source and route of infection, and the samples of the case and the exposed environment were collected for laboratory etiology detection.
Results the case had headache and nasal congestion on May 13, 2021, and fever on May 15 (39 5 ℃), cough and expectoration and other symptoms. He was seen on May 16, and was confirmed to be infected with H5N6 avian influenza virus by nucleic acid detection of throat swab samples on May 27. He died on June 4. The white striped duck was purchased, made and cooked 8 days before the onset of the disease; The nucleic acid test results of 12 close contacts and those exposed to polluted environment were negative, and there were no abnormalities after 7 days of health monitoring. 6%; The cause of infection may be the purchase, processing and cooking of white striped ducks without quarantine, which belongs to sporadic cases, and no human to human transmission was found; The overall environmental sanitation of the market is poor, the positive rate of virus detection is high, and the employees´ personal protection awareness is poor.
Conclusion we should strengthen the inspection and Quarantine of poultry in the market, strengthen the health management of the market, do a good job in daily disinfection, strengthen publicity and training, and enhance personal protection awareness, so as to reduce the risk of avian influenza virus infection in humans.
