UK: Bird flu (avian influenza): latest situation in Scotland

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N5 was confirmed in commercial backyard poultry in Ness, Isle of Lewis, Scotland (AIV 2026/20). A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone has been declared around the premises.
This is the first outbreak of the 2026 to 2027 season and following confirmation of this case, Great Britain has lost its freedom from highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu) status.
