USDA: HPAI detection in Minnesota

On 16 September 2026, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in commercial turkey meat bird (61100 birds affected) in Kandiyohi County, Minnestoa.

From 11 September to 16 September, 2026, APHIS reported 36 dead wild birds collected from 28 August to 10 September in 2026 (Mallard, Canada goose, American white pelican, Great horned owl, Wood duck, Bald eagle) tested positive for EA H5 HPAI strain in (Wright,Washington, Ramsey, Hennepin, Stearns, Sherburne, Dakota, Carver, Isanti, Scott, Chisago, Anoka) counties, Minnestoa.
