submited by kickingbird at Aug, 2, 2026 10:53 AM from Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

2 August 2026

Testing at CSIRO′s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) has returned a positive result in another silver gull found at Robe in South Australia.

There have now been 54 confirmed or presumed positive detections of H5 bird flu in Australia.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry also continues to work closely with the Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia in its H5 bird flu investigation of a large group of sick and dead greater crested terns at an offshore location south of Cape Jaffa.

There remain no detections in poultry or in our agricultural production system.

The risk to human health remains low.
