UK: Bird flu (avian influenza): latest situation in England

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in a backyard flock of captive birds near Alderley Edge, Cheshire East, Cheshire. A 3km captive bird (monitoring) controlled zone has been declared around the premises.

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone around a premises near Penrith, Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria (AIV 2025/65), the surveillance zone has been revoked.

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone around a commercial poultry premises near Uckfield, Wealden, East Sussex (AIV2025/77), the protection zone has ended and the area that formed it becomes part of the surveillance zone.

Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone around a second premises near Penrith, Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria (AIV 2025/69), the surveillance zone has been revoked.
