China: Four human cases of avian influenza A(H9N2) reported in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region(2), Hubei Province(1) and Henan Province(1)

From 7 to 13 November 2025, four new cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H9N2) virus was reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region. On 6 November 2025, the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China notified WHO of four confirmed cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H9N2) virus, diagnosed in October 2025. The first case is a one-year-old female from Guangxi Province who developed symptoms on 3 October 2025. The second case is a 12-year-old male from Hubei Province who developed symptoms on 7 October 2025. The third case is a three-year-old female from Henan Province who developed symptoms on 30 September 2025. The last case is a seven-month-old female from Guangxi Province who developed symptoms on 12 October 2025. All four cases had exposure to either backyard poultry or live poultry market and no epidemiological association was identified among them.
Since December 2015, a total of 149 cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H9N2), including two deaths (both with underlying conditions), have been reported to WHO in the Western Pacific Region. Of these, 146 were reported from China, two were reported from Cambodia, and one was reported from Viet Nam.
