Canada: Highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in British Columbia, January 11, 2025

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in the City of Abbotsford, British Columbia, in two premises, both in commercial poultry.
The CFIA has advised the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) of the confirmed presence of HPAI in Canada. This serves as a strong reminder that HPAI is spreading across the globe, and that anyone with birds must practice enhanced biosecurity procedures.
