Epidemiology
Source of the outbreak(s) or origin of infection: unknown or
inconclusive

Epidemiological comments: As part of the active monitoring of avian
influenza conducted in the Russian federation from 23 May to 29 May
2021 in the republic of Tuva (scientific expedition), samples were
collected from wild birds for laboratory testing at the Federal
State-Financed Budgetary Institution "ARRIAH". Wild birds were
clinically healthy and die-off was not reported in birds. Samples were
taken in the republic of Tuva: Ovyursky Raion, Uvs Lake, Piy-Khemsky
Raion, Beloye Lake and Kyzylsky Raion. The total number of samples
taken was 125. Samples taken from wild birds in Kyzylsky Raion tested
negative for AI virus.
A total of 7 samples taken in Piy-Khemsky Raion, Beloye Lake tested
positive for H5 and among them 3 samples tested positive for Н5N8,
the material was taken from birds of such species as: (_Aythya
ferina_) - 2, pos. A/H5; (_Larus ridibundus_) - 1, pos. A/H5; (_Aythya
fuligula_) - 1 pos. A/H5, (_Podiceps ruficollis_) - 3, pos. A/H5N8.
A total of 7 samples taken in Ovyursky Raion, Uvs Lake tested
positive for Н5, the material was taken from birds of such species
as: (_Phalacrocorax carbo_) - 2, pos. A/H5; (_Podiceps cristatus_) -
2- pos. A/H5; (_Larus ridibundus_) - 3- pos. A/H5.

Control measures applied in wild: surveillance within containment and
or the protection zone; screening; disinfection
