BRUSSELS, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) member states on Monday agreed to impose control measures for bird flu in Poland and Romania following recent outbreaks in the two countries, said the European Commission.
Veterinary experts from EU member states endorsed the commission"e;s decision to confirm protection and control measures already taken by the two member states.
These include a 3-km protection zone, a 10-km surveillance zone and a buffer zone around them. In the protection and surveillance zones, strict movement controls are in place and poultry must be kept indoors.
Outbreaks of H5N1 avian influenza in Poland and Romania have been confirmed by Monday.
The veterinary experts also voted that control measures imposed in response to the outbreaks of H5N1 avian influenza on turkey holdings in Britain in November should remain.
Britain said no further cases of the disease have been detected since Nov. 19 and that epidemiological investigations into the source of the virus are continuing.
