Vietnam confirms girl infected with bird flu

An eight-year-old Vietnamese girl from northern Thanh Hoa Province has been infected with bird flu and hospitalized, said an official with the National Steering Committee for Avian Influenza here on Tuesday.
The girl had contacted with poultry before being hospitalized, said the official. Specimens from poultry raised by her neighborhood have been recently tested positive to bird flu virus, the official added.
This is the first human case reported in the country this year.
