WHO: Avian influenza-situation in Indonesia-update 30

The Ministry of Health of Indonesia has announced a new case of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. A 32-year-old female from Tangerang District, Banten Province developed symptoms on 3 January 2008, was hospitalized on 9 January 2008 and died on 10 January. Investigations indicate the case had a history of close contact with birds and poultry in the week prior to her onset of symptoms.
Of the 118 cases confirmed to date in Indonesia, 95 have been fatal.
